CUIRASSIER HELMET, model 1872 modified 1874, Third Republic.
Helmet entirely made of steel.
Dome made of polished and stamped steel sheet, pierced at the top with four suction holes.
Visor (width 5 cm) and neck guard bordered with an 8 mm wide brass strip placed along its edges. Underside of visor coated with black waxed leather and underside of neck guard lacquered green.
One-piece stamped dome labeled "HELEBRONNER" and sized "58".
Neck guard composed of a circular band on its flat surface, welded under the rear edge of the extending band, featuring three brass riveted half-spherical head nails on the inside; a concave secondary band, forming a groove with rounded corners, welded inside the lower part of the first band, bordered by a copper setting strip placed on top.
Brass headband embossed with a flaming grenade encircled by laurel leaves, attached to the dome. Its base rests on the visor and its ends are riveted to the dome in the part hidden by the chinstrap rosette.
Each chinstrap consists of 15 alternately cut copper scales of decreasing width, fixed with flattened wire crimps on a leather core lined with black sheepskin. The right chinstrap is finished with a small riveted copper plate with an attached copper buckle. The left chinstrap is finished with a similar plate with a copper D-ring and strap.
The top scale of each chinstrap is covered with a circular copper rosette (diameter 4.3 cm) depicting four raised brass stripes.
The dome is topped with a copper crest composed of two fins, a mask, and a covering.
Fins adorned with palmettes and a border net on their upper edge; the rim is decorated with water leaves, all embossed in relief.
A tin-plated plate connects the upper edges of the fins, fixing their spacing.
The mask, which serves as the anterior junction between the two fins through a soldering joint, is embossed with a relief head of Medusa. The covering, also embossed, depicts the continuation of Medusa's hair with intertwined snakes.
Black horsehair mane approximately 60 cm long.
Embossed copper plume holder, 3.5 cm in height, forming a socket, fixed obliquely from bottom to top on the dome, slightly ahead of the left chinstrap, using two threaded rods passing through the dome.
Crest adorned with a socket and a lens formed by two embossed shells of flowers and palmettes. Attached to the front of the crest and supporting a scarlet tuft of horsehair.
The inner lining in black varnished leather is cut into 7 flaps.

Good condition, the steel has easily cleanable surface oxidation, small dent on the plume holder. Helmet from a family collection, never cleaned.
