SABRE OF THE IMPERIAL GUARD MARINES, First Empire (1804-1815).
This saber is entirely made of brass with a leather scabbard, the design of which was created in 1804 by the armorer DUC.
The guard has a single hollow branch (height 12.2 cm without the guard), an outer ear in the shape of a shield (height 5.45 cm) engraved with an anchor, and the guard branch ends with a ball quillon. The hilt is hollowed out underneath. The cap has a short tail (height 8.9 cm). The wooden handle is covered with leather and wrapped with a straight brass wire. "DUC" maker's marks are struck on the quillon.
The Klingenthal blade is 70 cm long, 4.35 cm wide at the base, and 7 cm wide at the point, with a thickness of about 1 cm at the base and a strong point bevel.
The hollow flats on each side are engraved with "IMPERIAL GUARD" in large cursive letters in a cartouche with rope, anchor, and palmettes, with a ribbed back.
The scabbard is made of wood covered with black waxed leather, with three brass fittings: a chape, central bracelet, and drag; a brass dart, and brass rings. The scabbard leather is well stamped with an anchor below the chape. The scabbard length is 72.5 cm.
