Obverse, within a laurel wreath, a circle of blue enamel with the inscription "FRENCH REPUBLIC - 1870" and a profile depiction of the Republic; on the reverse, the motto "VALOR AND DISCIPLINE".
Medal topped with a trophy of arms symbolizing the land and sea forces of the French army.
Flat reverse of the trophy, without the curaiss back, connected to the medal by a ring.
Yellow ribbon bordered with a green stripe.
