STEEL MARCASITE SWORD, reign of Louis XVI, Ancien Régime, beginning in 1790.
English-style hilt in steel marcasite entirely decorated with foliage, pearls, and ribbons cut in a diamond point manner. Guard with an openwork branch. Quillon with donkey steps. Oval-shaped pommel. Grip entirely in steel marcasite. Oval, completely openwork hilt. Triangular blade, 80 cm long, engraved with gilded foliage corollas on the first third against a blued background. Scarlet wool knot. Wooden scabbard covered in white shagreen with three steel fittings decorated with lines.

Very good condition, one repair on the hilt, some rubbing on the shagreen of the scabbard.
NOTE:
This type of sword first appeared around 1780 and continued into the 19th century.
