HELMET.
It consists of a dome, a visor, a neck guard, a headband, two chin scales, a crest, a mane of black horsehair approximately 55 cm long, a tuft of scarlet horsehair, a plume holder, and an interior lining.
All fittings are in gilded mercury copper with a matte and burnished finish.
The dome, made in a single stamped piece, is in chromed copper. It is stamped "SH BREVETÉ SGDG (under government guarantee)".
Visor inclined at 53 degrees below a horizontal plane passing through the junction of the visor and the dome. Bordered by a 7.6 mm wide gilded copper circle placed on its edges and fixed at the ends with a rivet. Underside of visor lined with green leather. Visor width 5 cm.
Neck guard composed of: a circular band on its flat side, welded under the posterior edge of the band it extends, with three gilded brass nails with hemispherical heads riveted inside; a second concave band, forming a groove, with rounded corners and welded inside, at the bottom of the first one. Similar to the visor, the neck guard is bordered by a 7 mm wide gilded copper setting, placed on top. It is lined with black waxed leather.
Headband, in gilded copper, embossed with a flaming grenade surrounded by laurel leaves, is attached to the dome. Its base rests on the visor and its ends are riveted to the dome in the part hidden by the chin strap rosette. Height of headband at the front 6.5 cm.
Each chin scale is composed of 9 gilded copper ornamented leaves, embossed in relief with laurel leaves, decreasing in width (max width 4.2 cm, min width 2 cm). These scales are fastened by flattened wire nails on a leather core lined with black velvet.
At the other end, black varnished calf strap.
Upper scale of each chin strap terminated by a rounded part embossed with a circular rosette representing relief laurel leaves (rosette diameter 5.3 cm).
The dome is surmounted by a gilded copper crest composed of two fins, a mask, and a covering.
The fins, positioned vertically at a distance of 3.2 cm in the front and 2.5 cm in the back, have a convex curvilinear triangle shape at their upper part and are joined to the dome by a concave base forming a scalloped rim.
This rim is secured to the dome by 4 round-headed copper screws which are stopped inside the helmet by square copper nuts.
The fins are adorned with palmettes and a border at their upper edge; the rim is decorated with water leaves, all embossed in relief.
A tin-plated plate joins the upper edges of the fins, fixing their spacing.
The mask, serving as the anterior junction between the two fins by soldering, is embossed with a relief head of Medusa. The covering, also embossed, represents the continuation of the hair of Medusa’s head with intertwined snakes.
Crest ornament composed of a socket 2.4 cm high, diameter 4.6 cm, embossed with relief water leaves and a lens 2.5 cm high and 1.9 cm in diameter, formed by two embossed shells. Fixed on the front of the crest and supporting a scarlet tuft of horsehair (H 4.6 cm).
Black-dyed horsehair mane, mounted on a strong nourished cowhide sole, in which the hair is assembled by tinned brass wires with a piece of sheepskin glued firmly on the assembly; the empty space between the two rows of hair is filled with a braid that starts from the top and follows the curve of the crest until its junction with the dome.
Plume holder in embossed copper, 3.5 cm high, forming a square section sleeve, fixed obliquely.
