SABER OF THE IMPERIAL GUARD SAILORS "MARINS DE LA GARDE", First Empire (1804-1815).
Fully brass saber with a leather scabbard, the model of which was created in 1804 by the sword cutler DUC.
Guard with a hollow branch (H 12.2 cm without quillon), outer ear in the shape of a shield (H 5.45 cm) engraved with an anchor, the guard branch ending in a ball quillon. The crossguard is hollow underneath.
Cap with a short tail (H 8.9 cm).
Wooden handle covered in leather, wrapped with a straight brass wire.
Punches of "DUC" and the marine anchor stamped on the quillon.
Klingenthal blade 70 cm long, 4.35 cm wide at the base and 7 cm wide at the flèche, with a thickness of about 1 cm at the back of the base, with a strong point bevel.
The hollow grooves on each side are engraved with "GARDE IMPÉRIALE" in large cursive letters in a ropework cartouche, anchor, and palmettes. Scarlet wool knot.
Length of the weapon alone 85.2 cm, weight 0.987 kilograms.
Scabbard in wood covered with black waxed leather, three brass fittings, chape, central bracelet, shoe; brass dard, brass rings. Brass ring studs. The leather of the scabbard is well stamped with an anchor under the central fitting.
Length of the scabbard alone 72.5 cm, weight 0.540 kilograms.
Very good condition. Oxidation typical for the blade.
