SABRE OF THE CORPS OF THE NAVAL GUARD OF THE IMPERIAL GUARD "GUARDSMEN OF THE GUARD", First Empire (1804-1815).
Sabre entirely made of brass with a leather scabbard, the model of which was created in 1804 by the swordsmith DUC.
Guard with one hollow branch (H 12.2 cm without quillon), outer ear in the shape of a shield (H 5.45 cm) engraved with the anchor, nearly completely worn away, the guard branch ending in a ball-shaped quillon. The hilt is hollowed out underneath.
Cap with a short tail (H 8.9 cm).
Wooden handle covered with leather, wound with a straight brass wire.
"DUCK" and the marine anchor stamps struck on the quillon.
Klingenthal blade 69.2 cm long, 4.3 cm wide at the base and 6.8 cm wide at the tip, with a back thickness at the base of about 1 cm, with a strong bevel on the point.
The hollowed out sides are engraved on each face with "IMPERIAL GUARD" in large cursive letters in a roped cartouche, anchor and palmettes. Scarlet wool cravat.
Length of the weapon alone 85 cm.
Scabbard with removed wooden edges and black waxed leather, three brass fittings, chape, central brace, ferrule; brass dart, brass rings. Brass ring pins. The leather of the scabbard is well stamped with the anchor under the central fitting, very difficult to read.
Length of the scabbard alone 72.5 cm.
Good state of preservation. Blade oxidation, scuffed scabbard. Piece remaining in its original state, never cleaned.
