LIEUTENANT'S UNIFORM OF REGIMENTAL ARTILLERY ATTACHED TO THE 42nd INFANTRY REGIMENT, model 1812, First Empire. Item No. 32596
Uniform made entirely of dark blue cloth trimmed with scarlet piping.
Both lapels decorated with 7 buttonholes each, featuring small brass buttons stamped with the number "42" (missing one button, button diameter 1.7 cm). Width of lapels at the bottom approximately 10.4 cm, at the top around 16.3 cm, height at the center 11 cm, height at the center back 32 cm, maximum height at the points 39 cm.
The right side of the uniform has 12 hooks on the lapel (two missing). The left side has corresponding rings for the hooks (only 5 present).
Standing collar 8 cm high fastened with 5 hooks and 5 rings.
Cuffs forming a point at the front (height at the point 11 cm, cuff height 6.8 cm), each cuff topped with a small standard uniform button for closure.
Rear false vertical pockets forming three points, each point adorned with a large standard uniform button (diameter 2.5 cm) imprinted with the number "42" (missing two buttons and one back button marked with the number "23"). Height of false pockets 28.5 cm, width at the top 12.5 cm, and at the bottom 6 cm.
Tails with scarlet-trimmed dark blue cuff, each corner adorned with a flaming bomb in passementerie, threads, cannetille, and gilded silver sequins, 7.3 cm high, width 5 cm. At the waist, two buttons are sewn, one of which is a back button marked with the number "23".
Shoulder strap loops embroidered in thread, cannetille, and gilded silver sequins, mounted on scarlet cloth. Width 1.5 cm.
Lining in dark blue cloth and ecru canvas marked with a pen "n°17" and bearing the ink stamp inscription "COLLECTION MAURICE LETESTU."
In very good condition, with some small holes and minor repairs.
Pair of epaulet and counter-epaulet in gilded silver passementerie, body in galloon known as "soubise" terminated by a triple turn with an epaulet featuring soft fringes known as "cordes à puits." Both are lined with dark blue cloth.
In perfect condition, retaining all their original gilding.

HISTORICAL BACKGROUND:
The 42nd infantry regiment was established in 1803 from the 42nd demi-brigade. It was disbanded in 1815.
In 1806, it was part of the army of Naples and fought in the battle of Neggio. In 1807, it was with the army of Italy and took part in the battles of Bologna and Verona. From 1808 to 1811, it was stationed with the army of Spain where it fought in Villa-Rodonia, Gerona, Vic, and Tarragona. In 1809, it fought with the army of Italy in the battles of Raab and Wagram. In 1813, it participated in the battles of Bautzen, Lekau, Grossbeeren, and Dennewitz. It ended the battles of the Empire from 1813 to 1814 stationed with the army of Italy.
