Brass three-branch guard. Short queue pommel. Wooden handle wrapped in calf leather with twisted brass wire filigree. Curved blade with hollow facets, engraved back "US / AMES / MFG CO / J.H. / CHICOPEE — 1857 / MASS", length 90.5 cm. Natural leather knot. Steel scabbard with two suspension rings.

NOTES:
This saber model is directly inspired by the French saber for light cavalry, model 1822. It was the most widely used saber in the American cavalry during the Civil War from 1861 to 1865, even more so than the model 1860 saber. Produced in 1858, this particular piece was therefore used during this conflict.
