DRAGOONS' TROOP HELMET, 1845 MODEL, SECOND EMPIRE.
Helmet entirely made of brass. Top dated 1847 "47", numbered "000 34 3". Bottom of the top rimmed with a gutter composed of a protruding and a flat rim. Turban made of strong cow leather covered with dyed skin imitating leopard, adapted to the helmet from 1858. Visor and neck guard made of brass lined with a rim folded over the outer edge, they are lined with black sheepskin. Crest composed of two fins stamped with a decreasing sequence of ridges towards the back, attached to the crest by two brass screws; mask stamped with a flaming bomb surmounted by a head of Medusa with a crown of laurel branches on top, attached to the crest by means of a brass screw; covering plate stamped with a braided mane; crest ornament with socket and olive, both stamped with palmettes, and black hair plume. Plume holder adorned with laurel branches. Black hair mane (subsequently changed) of 60 cm. Chinstraps, each composed of black varnished leather onto which is fixed a triple row of curb chains made up of rings connected to a round rosette stamped with a radiant sun held to the top by a brass screw. Inner leather liner cut in ten teeth-like shapes.
Depth of the top 12 cm.
Helmet in fair condition, with some dents on the top, minor accidents on the headband, repairs on the chinstraps.
