CAVALRY OFFICER SABER, 1896 PATTERN, THIRD REPUBLIC.
Brass hilt with a four-branch guard forming a shell decorated with laurel branches and a Medusa head. Short-tailed cap. Handle in ebony with filigree of gilded brass, with some missing filigree. Straight blade with hollow grooves, 85 cm in length, signed "BALP." Chromed steel scabbard with a belt ring. Small brown varnished leather lanyard with a repaired cord from the period.
Fair condition, with some oxidation on the scabbard.
