PLASTRON TROOP OF CARABINIERS, FIRST EMPIRE.
Made of iron, covered with a brass sheet leaving a border of exposed iron on the sides, decorated with 34 brass nails (3 of which are missing). It has a prominent ridge, a collar edged with a gutter, armholes bordered with a welt, and a rounded shape at the bottom. It is stamped on the left side with "AP". The 2 raised nails for fastening the clasps are missing.
On the left side, at stomach level, the plastron has a hole from a lance or a biscaïen.

NOTE:
A breastplate characteristic of the breastplates used during the Hundred Days with the holes for attaching the royal emblems from the First Restoration left visible. The Musée de l'Armée (Army Museum) possesses a magnificent painting depicting General Lariboisière bidding farewell to his son, an officer of carabiniers, who is painted wearing a similarly modified breastplate.
