Strong cardboard frame covered with dark blue cloth, some moth holes, cap in black varnished cowhide, visor in strong black varnished cowhide, leather chinstrap in black varnish; on each side, V-shaped chevron in varnished blackened leather, ventilation eyelets in copper tombac of the same shade as the cloth.
Front plate model 1895 in cut and embossed brass featuring a flaming grenade surmounting a banner marked with the name of the "ÉCOLE SPÉCIALE MILITAIRE," 50 mm diameter cockade in stamped white iron with blue-white-red national colors. With its chinstrap.
Inner headband in blackened sheepskin. Without pompom or plume.

HISTORICAL:
Georges Gaston Vauterin, born on October 11, 1878 in Mirande. In Salah promotion of Saint-Cyr (84th), 1899-1901 (222 officers out of 546 would fall in the line of duty). Second lieutenant then lieutenant in the 111th Infantry Regiment. As a captain in the 173rd Infantry Regiment, he was killed on August 29, 1914 in the attack on Rehainviller Chaufontaine (Meurthe-et-Moselle) as part of the offensive towards Lunéville.
