SWORD OF THE GUARDS OF THE KING'S MILITARY HOUSEHOLD, model 1814, Restoration. Inventory number 34412
Silver-plated brass hilt. Guard with a single branch decorated at the crossguard with an engraved fleur-de-lis, and with simple wavy fillets on the quillon and guard branch. Oval-shaped pommel engraved on its front face with a fleur-de-lis and on the sides with wavy fillets. Wooden handle entirely filigreed with copper, with silver ferrules. Bivalve-shaped guard plate bordered with wavy fillets, slightly bent downwards at the front and upwards at the back. The quillon features a scallop shell. Triangular blade with acid-etched colichemarde design on a damascus background saying "Sans peur / Sans Reproche" (Fearless and Without Reproach), and on the back engraved with two fleur-de-lis framing the inscription "Gardes du Corps du Roi" (King's Bodyguards). Blade length 87.5 cm. Crimson cloth knot. Black varnished leather scabbard with two silver-plated fittings decorated with fillets. Throat with button for wearing on the belt.

Very good condition, minor signs of wear at the bottom of the scabbard, barely visible.

From the former collections of Raoul and Jean Brunon. Featured in Christian Ariès' book on edged weapons, 4th issue from 1969.
