Lieutenant Colonel Shako of the National Guard of the Imperial Guard, First Empire. 33701(12479)

Shako made of cardboard covered with black taupe velvet (H 22 cm). Crown made of black varnished leather (Ø 26 cm). Top of the barrel adorned with a silver braid woven with a laurel branch design (H 3 cm). At the lower part, a black varnished leather chinstrap (H 2.5 cm). Visor made of strong varnished cowhide leather, green waxed interior, embossed with a molded foliage border along the chinstrap, attached to the front of the shako; outer edge trimmed with a silver-plated copper wire folded over; visor width at its center 5.5 cm, wire width 8 mm.
Silver-plated copper plate stamped and cut in the shape of a crowned imperial eagle holding the shining thunderbolt of Jupiter in its claws (H 10.3 cm, width 8.7 cm). Cockade placed above the plate, made of silver, scarlet, and dark blue silk trimmings at the center (Ø 6.5 cm). Chinstrap made of a silver braid woven in a "cul de dé" pattern, 8 mm wide, wrapping around the base of the cockade with a small uniform button (Ø 1.8 cm) in gilded brass mounted on a silver-plated copper eagle plate.
Chinstraps. On each side of the shako, a chinstrap composed of an underchin strap attached to the shako by a rosette. Underchin strap made of black leather lined with black velvet on which is mounted a series of 14 scales of decreasing width, in gilded brass, each cut into 4 scallops, the last scale being rounded, held together by flat fasteners. The first scale measures 3.5 cm wide, the last 2.5 cm. Each scale is stamped to represent a double scale: one cut into 5 smooth scallops, burnished with agate stone and another one with 4 scallops on a sandblasted and matte background. The chinstrap is secured by a round silver-plated copper rosette Ø 4 cm, known in the 1812 regulations as the "big button". Rosettes embossed with a relief 5-pointed star with a raised frame on a matte background. Chinstraps finished with a brown cord.
Interior lining composed of black waxed leather cut into five lobes.

Spherical tricolor wool pompom Ø 6 cm.
