OFFICER'S HELMET AND CUIRASS OF CUIRASSIERS, 1825 MODEL, RESTORATION PERIOD.
HELMET:
Silver-plated copper shell. Hallmarked by the silversmith and a second mark indicating "DOUBLÉ" (doubled), signifying the quality of the plating. Height of the shell 16 cm, height of the shell with visor and neck guard 21 cm.
Gilded brass headband embossed on a sandblasted background featuring a flaming bomb framed by laurel and oak branches.
Visor (width 5.8 cm) and neck guard in silver-plated copper, each bordered by a folded gilded brass edging, lined with black waxed leather.
Gilded brass crest composed of an embossed mask (height 11 cm, width 4 cm) stamped on a sandblasted background with a fleur-de-lis surmounted by a relief Medusa head; the mask is attached at its base by a gilded brass screw with a spherical head; two crests (maximum height 10 cm) embossed on a sandblasted background with a decreasing series of 13 fluted decorations framed by pearls and drops. The lower part of each crest is scalloped, folded outward, and secured to the shell with 4 gilded brass screws with round heads.
Gilded brass aigrette holder consisting of a decorated button on a sandblasted background with palmettes (diameter 6.2 cm, height 2.7 cm), and a socket (diameter 2.6 cm, height 3.6 cm) with laurel branches and palmettes on a sandblasted background; scarlet horsehair plume (height 8.5 cm). At the base of the socket, a toothed disk cut in the shape of foliage, diameter 3.8 cm.
Plume holder (height 4.5 cm) in gilded brass engraved on the corners and decorated at the top with a crown of foliage. It tapers towards the bottom in a square section.
Gilded brass interlaced 8-shaped chinstraps on a leather chinstrap covered with a thin black cloth (maximum height 4.4 cm and minimum 1.8 cm, length of the chinstraps without the rosette 15 cm); gilded brass rosette stamped with a radiating sun on a sandblasted background (diameter 5.6 cm), attached to the shell by a gilded brass screw.
Black horsehair mane, in brush form (height 6 cm), ending in a floating tail approximately 33 cm long.
Interior leather liner cut with gilded tooth-like edges.
Total height of the helmet: 35 cm.
Very good condition, the brass parts have retained their gilding.
CUIRASS:
First Empire model, predating 1825 and belonging to the Restoration period.
Made of steel, consisting of a backplate and a breastplate.
BREASTPLATE edged with 12 brass studs. Two studs are riveted at chest level to attach the leather shoulder pieces of the backplate covered in Bordeaux morocco leather edged on each side with a silver braid, covered with a double chain mail in gilded brass with a gilded brass lion head lock terminating at the bottom by a red waxed leather flap decorated with a silver braid.
At the bottom, a red cloth-covered leather belt is secured by two brass screws on each side and edged on each side with a silver braid.
BACKPLATE edged with 5 brass studs, plus 4 for securing the belt. At the top, the shoulders are attached by a relief stamped lion's head.
