OFFICER'S SHAKO OF THE IMPERIAL GUARD CHASSEURS À CHEVAL, Second Empire.
Shako in leather covered with black fur, height at the front 18.5 cm, height at the back 21 cm. Crown in black varnished leather, diameter 17.5 cm. On each side of the shako, a gilt brass rosette, horizontally striped background, oval in shape (height 3 cm, width 2.2 cm) holding a hook to support the chinstrap. On the right side, three-quarters towards the back, a smooth gilt brass rosette, round in shape, diameter 1.6 cm, is attached 3 cm from the top, meant to receive the end of the chinstrap. At the front, at the top, there is an opening leading to a pouch meant to hold the tuft and plume, opening width 3 cm. Interior liner in brown waxed sheepskin cut into 12 wolf teeth. Frame lined with gold silk canvas. Crown lined with black morocco leather with a golden label bearing the inscription "MILITARY EQUIPMENT Rue Fontaine Matier (?) CHENOUARD PARIS". Crown adorned with a detachable flame in scarlet cloth, round base, trimmed with a welt, diameter 15 cm. Flame adorned with 3 silver braids, flame length 42 cm, the bottom braid forms a loop meant to attach to a lace fixed to the frame above the left rosette. Flame finished with a tassel made of silver cannetilles with soft fringes, height of the tassel 1.4 cm, height of the fringes 4.5 cm. Oval-shaped tassel, wooden, mounted with a metal rod; the back is straight, covered with ivory silk; the front is rounded (thickness 2 cm) entirely covered with a silver cord. Tassel height 5.6 cm, width 3.9 cm.
Plume made of curled white cock feathers (height 20 cm), mounted on a whalebone (height 22.5 cm) with a gilt brass tulip at its base (height 4 cm).
