SET OF HELMET AND CUIRASS OF IMPERIAL GUARD CUIRASSIERS, MODEL 1854, SECOND EMPIRE. 34411
HELMET with steel shell, visor, and neck guard with brass fittings. Shell marked "1", dated 1872 and signed "DELACHAUSSÉE." Visor and neck guard with brass rim folded over their outer edge, lined with green waxed buff leather on the inside. Front band embossed with relief crowned N placed on two laurel branches. Crest (H 10.5 cm) composed of: two fins embossed with a series of 10 decreasing panels towards the back and bordered at the top with laurel leaves; and a crest (width 3.8 cm) embossed in relief at the top with a Medusa head. Brass crest ornament trimmed with scarlet horsehair. Black horsehair mane with a braided band in the center. Chinstrap with interlaced ring chin pieces, with rosettes embossed with laurel leaves (diameter 5.3 cm). Brass plume holder. Inner leather lining cut into 8 sections.
Fair condition, shell with signs of oxidation, one screw holding the rear lining, replaced chinstrap straps, screws holding the rosettes changed in the past, rear hair crest.
CUIRASS made of steel consisting of a backplate and a breastplate similarly marked on the outer edges "89." Breastplate bordered with 21 brass nails and marked inside "Imperial Manufacture Klingenthal Coulaux & Cpie - 1856 2nd size 1st width no. 2°17."
Backplate bordered with 39 brass nails, adorned at the top with two leather straps (one strap replaced, cut on one of the straps) covered with a chain mail in the form of intertwined 8 in brass with a steel lock finished with leather pulls (replaced), and at the bottom with a black leather strap (replaced). Backplate marked similarly to the breastplate.
