NAVAL OFFICER'S SWORD, 1872 MODEL, THIRD REPUBLIC.
Gilt bronze hilt, guard with three branches forming an openwork shell decorated with foliage and at its center a raised naval anchor. Pommel with a long tail decorated with a scallop shell and floral motifs. Horn grip. Straight blade with a hollow ground, curved back edge, ridged spine, length 76.4 cm; back engraved "Coulaux Frères." Red woolen knot. Black varnished leather scabbard with three gilded bronze fittings, chape decorated with a naval anchor and stamped on the back "ROUART A PARIS."
Very good condition, gilding absent.
