PAIR OF VICE-ADMIRAL EPAULETTES IN THEIR CARRYING BOX, THIRD REPUBLIC.
They are embroidered in a pattern of twists and gold sequins. The body is embroidered with a design representing a V-shaped braid bordered by a scalloped framing strip on black velvet; its badge is decorated with a shield adorned with three silver stars and a gilded brass anchor. Black velvet lining.
The fringes are made of thick matte twists. The outline consists of three twist assemblies: a thick one in matte cord and shiny thread alternately rolled on a cotton core; an inner assembly, in small matte Milanese twisted, mixed with another simple shiny one; a third assembly, of the same work, is applied below the thick one, at the beginning of the fringe.
1872 model Admiral's uniform button (half-rounded, gilt with a matte finish, relief-stamped with the insignia of general officers, a helmet with plume surmounting a shield bearing a star on a background of a fasces and flags), attached at the top of the epaulette body by a strong clasp. Everything is pinned on a marine anchor.
