NAVAL OFFICER'S SWORD, model 1854, SECOND EMPIRE.
Brass hilt with three branches forming a shell and decorated between the branches with foliage branches with a cable-encircled anchor topped by the imperial crown. Cap with a long tail decorated with scallop shells and foliage. Rope handle. Straight blade (length 65.4 cm), rounded spine engraved "Coulaux aîné, Manufacture à Klingenthal". Black varnished leather scabbard with three brass fittings. Chape with brass loop and belt ring, protruding button for wearing on the belt, decorated in relief with a cable-encircled anchor topped by the imperial crown. Central brass fitting with brass loop and belt ring, scabbard tip decorated with a scallop shell.
Fair condition, weapon needs cleaning and restoration, brass fittings are discolored but in very good condition, handle is in very good condition, blade has some oxidation traces that can be cleaned, leather scabbard is complete, stitching is intact, varnish is largely chipped giving it a worn appearance.
