PAIR OF REAR ADMIRAL EPAULETTES, THIRD REPUBLIC.
They are embroidered in a motif of twisted trim and gold sequins. The body is embroidered with a design depicting a V-shaped braid bordered by a scalloped trim on black velvet; its crest is adorned with a shield embellished with two silver stars framing a gilded brass anchor.
The fringes are made of large matte twists. The outline consists of three twists: a large one in matte piping and shiny spun alternately over a cotton core; a second, inner one in small twisted matte milanese, mixed with another simple shiny one; a third, similar work, is applied below the large one, at the start of the fringe.
1872 uniform button (half-domed, gilded with a matte finish, embossed with the insignia of general officers, helmet plume surmounting a shield stamped with a star on a background of fasces and flags), attached at the top of the epaulette body by a strong clasp marked "E. BIDAL RUE DE RICHELIEU 3 PARIS" and placed below, at the corresponding part.
