Embroidered in a curl pattern of gold braids and sequins. Body embroidered with a design resembling a V-shaped ribbon, bordered by a scalloped rod on a dark blue, almost black wool cloth; shield decorated with a shield embroidered with ridges and adorned with two stamped silver stars clamped, Ø 2.2 cm. The outline of this shield is composed of two large turns: one in matte braid and shiny spun thread, rolled alternately and the other similarly but slightly smaller in diameter. Fringes gathered in three rows of large braids called "spinach seeds", reinforced at the fringe level with a leather ocher piping. Body made of cardboard lined with dark blue, almost black cloth.
Body length without the shield 7.27 cm.
Body length with the shield 12.5 cm.
Body length with the two turns 14.8 cm.
Body width 7 cm.
Width of shield and three turns 12.2 cm.
Total height of the body and fringes 6.5 cm.
Originally, these epaulettes were intended for a divisional general, the placement of the third star is still visible. It seems that this third star was deliberately removed as there is no trace of tearing and this element is missing on both epaulettes. During the Empire, especially during the Russian campaign, there are testimonies that recount that upon the death of a general, his clothing items were sold to other senior officers in order to gather money for his widow.
France.
First Empire.
Good condition, missing the third star on each epaulette as well as the original blue cloth lining.
