TROOPER HELMET of the 4th SQUADRON OF THE REGIMENT OF THE GUARD CUIRASSIERS "Garde-Kürassier - Regt.", model of April 25, 1867.
Hemispherical skull, top part of the peak and scales of the chinstrap in tombac, a copper and zinc alloy giving a reddish hue to the whole, other metal parts in white metal, Neusilber, similar to nickel silver. Edge and rivets in white metal. Double visor, forming a step. Skull, visor, and neck cover edged with folded white metal. Highly arched neck cover in its length and width, made up of three independent pieces held together by six large hemispherical rivets, five other rivets elegantly adorn the bottom. Marked at the center at the back "G K R. 4TH." Black Eagle Order plate of 117 mm in diameter, in white metal, round central motif in tombac with removable black lacquered eagle, surrounded by a first circular banderole adorned at its base with a laurel wreath and bearing in its height the Latin motto 'SUUM CUIQUE' (To each his own). The set of the plate forming a radiant sun, second circular banderole with Prussian motto 'MIT.GOTT.FÜR.KÖNIG.UND.VATERLAND.1860.'. On the back of the plate, four welded cross-shaped studs allow it to fit into the four cross-cut openings on the front of the skull, with four leather corners forcibly securing it. Crest made of a base and a tubular part in white metal, held in place by four hemispherical rivets in the same metal. Perforated in the center for ventilation. Small tombac tip. Toothed cockade in steel sheet, 74 mm in diameter, in the colors of Prussia, black and white, placed on the right side of the chinstrap. (Single cockade on the right side until 1897). Chinstrap fixed by split hemispherical screw, upper scale of each chinstrap covered with a movable copper rosette, independent of the chinstrap. Each of them is composed of 15 hemispherical scales in tombac cut alternately in two or three festoons, decreasing in width, from 34 mm to 19 mm. Scales fixed with flat iron wire staples on a leather core lined with sheepskin. Left chinstrap adorned at its end with a small peg to fix the other chinstrap into which a hollow notch has been made. Interior of the skull lacquered black, as well as the neck cover, visor lacquered dark green. Leather inner liner made of 10 wolf teeth sewn on a thick raw leather headband. Very good state of preservation, some wear on the skull, worn inner liner.

NOTE: It is with this type of helmet that the Prussian cuirassiers fought during the Franco-Prussian War of 1870-1871, where the guard cuirassiers were in the reserve of the Prussian cavalry during the battle at Saint Privat, they were engaged near Sedan on September 1, 1870.
