SABER OF THE IMPERIAL GUARD SAILORS "MARINS DE LA GARDE", FIRST EMPIRE (1804-1815).
Fully brass saber with a leather scabbard, the design of which was created in 1804 by the armorer DUC.
Guard with a hollow branch (H 12.2 cm without the quillon, L 1.8 cm at the top, W 0.8 cm at the top and 1.1 cm at the bottom), outer ear in the shape of shields (H 5.35 cm, L 4.6 cm, W approximately 2/3 mm) engraved with an anchor (H 4.70 cm, L 2.9 cm), the guard branch ends with a ball quillon (H 4.5 cm, L 4.5 cm, W 1.7 to 0.8 cm, diameter approximately 1.6 cm). The hilt is hollow underneath.
Cap with a short tail (H 8.8 cm, L 3.9 cm max, W 3.4 cm max).
Wooden handle (L 4 cm, W 2.4 cm), covered with leather, wrapped with a straight brass wire (diameter approximately 1.5 mm).
Two small illegible stamps struck on the quillon.
Klingenthal blade measuring 70.4 cm long by 4.1 cm at the base and 7.2 cm at the widest point, thickness at the spine at the base approximately 1 cm, with a strong pointed bevel.
The hollow sections are engraved on each side with "GARDE IMPÉRIALE" in large cursive letters (H approximately 2.1 cm, L 9 cm) in a rope cartouche, anchor, and palmettes (outer L 22.7 cm, outer W 2.7 cm).
Length of the weapon alone 85 cm, weight 0.966 kilograms.
Scabbard in wood covered with black waxed leather (width at the top 4.9 cm, W at the top 2.1 cm), brass fittings, chape (outer H 11.5 cm and inner 9.5 cm, L 5.2 cm, W 2.1 cm), central bracket (outer H 8.8 cm and inner 4.6 cm, L 5.2 cm, W 2 cm), drag in brass (H 11.2 cm, W 0.4 cm), brass rings. Brass bails ring pins (H 1.3 cm, L 1.5 cm), brass rings (outer diameter 3.1 cm, W 0.35 cm). Scabbard well stamped with the naval anchor placed on the inner edge of the scabbard.
Scabbard length alone 73.5 cm, weight 0.481 kilograms.
Excellent state of preservation. Slight oxidation on the blade due to normal use.
