SABRE OF THE BODY OF "MARINS DE LA GARDE" OF THE IMPERIAL GUARD, FIRST EMPIRE (1804-1815).
Sabre entirely made of brass with a leather scabbard, whose design was created in 1804 by the armorer DUC.
Guard with a single branch (H 12.2 cm without quillon, L 1.8 cm at the top, E 0.8 cm at the top and 1.1 cm at the bottom), outer ear shaped like shields (H 5.45 cm, L 4.5 cm, thickness approximately 2/3 mm) engraved with an anchor (H 4.75 cm, L 2.9 cm), the guard branch ends in a ball quillon (H 4.4 cm, L 4.2 cm, thickness 1.8 to 0.8 cm, diameter approximately 1.6 cm). The crossguard is hollowed out underneath.
Cap with a short tang (H 8.9 cm, L 3.9 cm max, thickness 3.5 cm max).
Wooden handle (L 4 cm, thickness 2.4 cm), covered in leather, wrapped with a straight brass wire (diameter approximately 2 mm).
" DUC" and anchor stamps struck on the quillon (the anchor stamp is generally struck on the leather of the scabbard, making it an interesting variant).
Klingenthal blade 69.5 cm long, 4.35 cm at the base, 7 cm at the curvature, back thickness at the heel around 1 cm, with a strong tip bevel.
The hollow sides are engraved on each face with "GARDE IMPÉRIALE" in large cursive letters (H about 2 cm, L 9 cm) in a cordage cartouche, anchor, and palmettes (outer length 22.5 cm, outer width 2.7 cm).
Length of the weapon alone 85 cm, weight 0.983 kilograms.
Scabbard in wood covered with black waxed leather (L at the top 5.2 cm, thickness at the top 1.9 cm), brass fittings, chape (outer height 11.5 cm and inner height 10 cm, L 5.2 cm, thickness 2 cm), central band (outer height 8.8 cm and inner height 4.5 cm, L 5.3 cm, thickness 2.2 cm), locket (outer height approximately 23 cm and inner height 20 cm, L 4.6 cm, thickness 1.9 cm); brass dard (H 11 cm, thickness 0.4 cm), brass rings. Brass ring loops (H 1.2 cm, L 1.4 cm), brass rings (outer diameter 3.1 cm, thickness 0.3 cm).
Length of the scabbard alone 72.5 cm, weight 0.529 kilograms.
Very good condition. Oxidation on the blade mainly at the heel under the ears. Some signs of use on the locket and other scabbard fittings, the angles of the fittings are split by 3 mm. Scabbard in good condition with a small split on the interior edge over a length of 4.5 cm, and the back seam has some damage.
