Sabre of the Naval Guards of the Imperial Guard, First Empire.
Sabre entirely made of brass with a leather scabbard, the design of which was created in 1804 by the sword cutler DUC.
Guard with a pierced branch, outer ear in the shape of an anchor, the guard branch ends with a ball quillon. The crossguard is pierced underneath. Cap with a short tail. Handle made of wood covered with leather, wrapped with a straight brass wire. "DUC" punch struck on the quillon.
Blade from Klingenthal, 70 cm long by 4 cm wide at the heel, back thickness at the heel 0.8 cm, with a tapered point. The hollow edges are engraved on each side with "GARDE IMPÉRIALE" in large cursive letters in a roped cartouche, anchor, and palmettes.
Scabbard made of wood covered with black waxed leather, brass fittings chape, central loop, locket; brass dart, brass rings. Brass bails ring pins, brass rings. Marking with a branding iron on the leather scabbard of a naval anchor, under the locket.
Very good state of preservation. Oxidation on the blade from use. Slightly chipped leather varnish.
