OFFICER'S HELMET AND CUIRASS OF THE CUIRASSIERS, MODEL 1825, MODIFIED 1830, JULY MONARCHY.
HELMET:
Silver-plated copper shell. Hallmarked by the silversmith.
Gilt brass headband embossed on a sandy background with a flaming bomb framed by laurel and oak branches.
Silver-plated copper visor and neck guard each bordered by a gilt brass edge folded over the outer rim, lined with a green chinstrap that was replaced at a later date.
Gilt brass crest embossed with a mask on a sandy background with a palmette topped by a relief head of Medusa; two flaps embossed on a sandy background with a decreasing series of 13 flutes framed by pearls and drops.
Gilt brass plume holder consisting of an olive decorated on a sandy background with palmettes, and a socket with laurel branches and palmettes on a sandy background; scarlet horsehair plume.
Gilt brass plumet holder engraved on the edges and decorated at the top with a crown of foliage. It tapers down in a square section.
Gilt brass interlaced 8-shaped cheekpieces engraved, mounted on a leather chinstrap; gilt brass rosette stamped with a radiant sun, attached to the shell with a screw.
Black horsehair mane, in the form of a brush ending with a floating tail approximately 56 cm long.
Interior leather lining cut in wavy edges gilt with iron on the edges.
CUIRASS:
First Empire model, then restored before 1825.
Made of steel consisting of a backplate and breastplate. Breastplate bordered by 12 brass nails. Two nails are riveted at chest level to attach the leather shoulder straps of the backplate, covered in scarlet cloth bordered by a silver braid on each side, covered with a double chain mail in gilded brass with a lion-shaped brass lock in relief in the lower part finished with a scarlet waxed leather strap embroidered with silver thread. The backplate is bordered by 5 brass nails, plus 4 to fix the waist belt. At the top, the shoulder straps are attached with an embossed relief lion head.
At the bottom, a black leather belt is attached by two brass screws on each side, an old belt but replaced.
