PAIR OF EMBROIDERED EPAULETTES FOR A STANDARD-BEARER OR SUB-LIEUTENANT ADJUTANT OF THE KING'S BODYGUARD OF THE KING'S MILITARY HOUSEHOLD, model 1814, RESTORATION, 1814-1820. 30004
They are embroidered with twists and silver sequins.
Luxuriously embroidered body featuring a design depicting a V-shaped baton braid bordered by a scalloped trim on scarlet woolen cloth, buttonhole bordered by an embroidered trim, this luxurious finish is a fantasy; its badge is decorated with a shield adorned with a radiant sun with the face of the sun in the center (made of stamped silver foil), this decoration is specific to these two ranks according to the 1814 regulations.
Double row of fringes in large twisted strands of mixed matte and shiny silver threads. The outline consists of three turns (a large one in matte braid and shiny spun thread alternately; a second inner one of the same finish; a third, of the same workmanship, is applied below the large one, at the beginning of the fringe).
Dimensions:
Body: length 7.3 cm, width 6.9 cm.
Shield and twists: length 7.2 cm, width 12.3 cm.
Fringes: H 5.5 cm.
Weight of the epaulette 212 grams; weight of the counter-epaulette 96 grams.
France.
Restoration Period.
Perfect state of preservation.
NOTE:
It was only on August 16, 1820, in the new regulations on the uniform of the Bodyguards, that this model with fringed epaulettes with large twists and counter-epaulette was introduced for the ranks of squadron leader, standard-bearers, adjutants, chief quartermasters, and first-class quartermasters. However, in 1820, there is no longer a provision for a radiant sun-shaped decoration. This specimen proves that the fringes with large twists were in use before the 1820 regulation.
